Robert Rantoul (1778-1858) was an important figure in Beverly history, and the publication of his autobiography is a aignificant contribution to our understanding of that history.
A casual stroll around the city will reveal street layouts and place names that were suggested by Rantoul or inspired by his efforts. Rantoul’s connections to many other notable Beverly families, and observations on the events and issues of his time provide a revealing glimpse into 19th century Beverly and the country. Thanks to the efforts of two volunteers, Historic Beverly is able to bring this immensely important document by one of Beverly’s most significant early figures to the public.
