Spotlight Tour: Cabot House Parlor

January 6, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 6:15 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until January 27, 2021

The John Cabot House is a Georgian style mansion built in 1781 during the Revolutionary War; it was the first brick mansion built in Beverly. The wealth of the Cabot family is reflected in the architecture of the house, the beautifully carved paneling, and decorations such as the Dutch tiles surrounding the fireplace in the parlor room. It would have been furnished with elegant furniture and decorative objects from around the world, a showplace to emphasize the success of John Cabot. The Cabot House parlor room is chock-full of hidden gems from the Historic Beverly collection. In this one room you can find a painting by Gilbert Stuart, a Chickering piano, a Simon Willlard tall clock, the bust of John Milton and a vase that survived its journey through a typhoon in the China Sea. This Spotlight Talk will examine the parlor room and its contents in depth; it’s almost like being here! Spotlight Talks are intimate 15-minute discussions about specific objects in our collection.

Free to all; join us here.
